Russia to import 260,000 tonnes of pipes from Ukraine duty-free in 2010

Russia is to import 260,000 tonnes of large-diameter pipes from Ukraine duty-free this year under an agreement between the Russian Economic Development Ministry and Ukrainian Economics Ministry.

An earlier agreement "stipulated that on the basis of the market situation in the first quarter, it will be decided what the [2010] quota [for large-diameter pipe imports] will be," Russian Deputy Economic Development Minister Andrei Klepach told reporters.

"On the basis of the market situation and its growth [pace], it can be said that this quota will enable Ukraine to keep its share of the market," he said.

Earlier this week, the Russian government lifted restrictions on sales of Ukrainian-made pipes in Russia.
