The stereotype of Moscow's construction workers all being foreign would no longer seem to correspond to reality. Of the 1 million people working on Moscow's construction sites, only 10 per cent are foreign citizens, RIA Novosti reported Acting Mayor Vladimir Resin as saying at a press conference last week.
"Approximately 100,000 CIS citizens and other foreigners remain in Moscow's construction sites - among them are Ukrainians, Moldovans, Belarusians, Turkmen, Uzbeks and others," said Resin. "In many respects their qualifications are no worse than Russians'."
According to the acting mayor, no one carried out finishing work better than Armenians. "Uzbeks work well with stone and Turkmens with earthwork," added Resin.
