Rada to introduce state controls on prices for staples

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has supported at first reading a draft resolution on the state regulation of prices for consumer goods that are of considerable social importance to households.
The decision was supported by 311 MPs out of the 425 registered in the session hall.
The draft document foresees instructions under which the Cabinet of Ministers should immediately approve the list of staples that will be subject to state fixed prices and ensure continuous monitoring of prices for those goods.
The government was also tasked to carry out a regular analysis of prices on the consumer market and correspondingly amend the staples lists.
The draft resolution was initiated by Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn.
