The date of the presidential election has been officially scheduled for March 4, 2012, by the Federation Council. The document was approved by a unanimous vote earlier on Friday, Itar-Tass reported.
Current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is expected to officially become a nominee for the coming presidential election after it is announced during the second part of United Russia’s assembly on Sunday, Gazeta.ru reported.
During the first part of the session in September, the sitting President Dmitry Medvedev said Putin was to run for the presidency for a third time.
