UK appoints new ambassador to Russia

Britain has appointed a new ambassador to Russia, with Tim Barrow due to take office in November, the Foreign Office has announced.

He replaces Anne Pringle, who has been in the post for three years.

Barrow, a former representative to the EU Political and Security Committee, had a stint as a secretary at the UK embassy in Moscow from 1990-1993.

Britain is one of the biggest investors in Russia, with current projects worth about $18 billion. However relationships between London and Moscow have been strained since the 2007 Litvinenko affair
