Deadly hurricane strikes Russia's Far East

A hurricane in Russia’s Amur Region killed one person, injured 30 and caused 80 million rubles of damage.

Strong winds ripped apart buildings in Blagoveshchensk on Sunday, causing extensive power cuts, regional spokesman Anton Ivlev said.

The dead man was a 30-year-old resident of the city who died in hospital after the whirlwind struck.

It was described the first ever tornado to strike a built-up area in Russia.
