Russian cafes remove word 'America' from their names
The authorities of the Kemerovo region of Russia asked the owners of "America Coffee" cafe to change its name due to the political situation.
The owners of the cafe received the suggestion on the feasibility of re-branding from the town hall. The cafe is located in the center of the city. The owners of "America Coffee" changed the name of their cafe to "O!KROSHKA Coffee." Okroshka is a popular cold vegetable soup that many Russians like to eat in summer.
"Against the background of the situation with Ukraine and the USA, the administration recommended we should change the name. We chose a new, purely Russian name that we liked," the owner of the cafe told the Kemerovo Newspaper.
At the same time, the press service of the town hall said that they were aware of the fact that the cafe had changed the name. However, the city administration had nothing to do with the story.
"This is a private business, and it took the decision alone. We have nothing to do with it, this is out of our competence" press officer Yevgeny Klimenko said.
