700 automated ticket selling machines are to be installed in Moscow’s metro system by the end of the year.
“It will be an answer to the queues at the ticket-selling windows in the metro,” quoted metro boss Ivan Besedin as saying on Tuesday.“In November, you will already be able see these machines in many stations.”
Moscow Deputy Mayor Nikolai Lyamov said that the problem could be due to a shortage of ticket sellers during peak hours.
“When only one or two windows out of four are working that’s no good,” quoted the deputy mayor as saying. “All the windows should be working.” reported that this was not the first time that plans had been announced to reduce queues using ticket vending machines – plans were also announced in 2005 and November 2010 but that the machines failed to appear.
